The workshop aims to enhance the participants' understanding of the various types of questions included on the NCLEX® and will present the latest best practices in item writing, focusing on principles such as clarity, relevance, and the avoidance of common item writing pitfalls. Participants will obtain the item writing skills necessary to develop high-quality exam items.​

  • In this workshop our expert consultants will: Explore NCLEX detailed test plan.​
  • Discuss various types of items included on the NCLEX® exam Review best practices for item development.​
  • Practice revising items following best practice.​

Item Analysis +/- Test Blueprinting​

3 Hours / 2.5 Contact Hours​

Item Analysis:​

This workshop is designed to familiarize educators with test item analysis and its application in improving the quality of exams. Participants will learn to differentiate between item discrimination and difficulty, understand their desired values, interpret point biserials, and utilize item analysis for test revision. The workshop combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises, enabling attendees to apply these concepts to real-world testing scenarios.​

Test Blueprinting:​

Participants will learn about the importance of test blueprinting and how to construct blueprints tailored to their specific curriculum. Additionally, the workshop will cover the essential elements of a comprehensive testing policy​

In this workshop our expert consultants will:​

  • Item Analysis:​
    • Compare and contrast the difference between item discrimination and difficulty. Describe desired values for item difficulty and item discrimination.​
    • Analyze the relationship between positive and negative point biserials for the key and distractors.
    • Discuss use of item analysis in test revision.​
  • Test Blueprinting:​
    • Explain the purpose and importance of test blueprinting.​
    • Discuss the process for developing test blueprints at the course and program levels. Develop a blueprint for the program or course in the curriculum.​
    • Review the components of a comprehensive testing policy.​

NCLEX® Case Study Development & Item Writing​

The workshop provides an in-depth look at the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)'s activities and guidance regarding the assessment of clinical judgment on NCLEX. Participants will learn about the foundational principles of NGN item writing and will have the opportunity to create their own NGN items based on a case scenario.​

In this workshop our expert consultants will:​

  • Explore NCSBN activities and guidance related to clinical judgment and NGN item types.​
  • Review basic item writing principles related to NGN.
  • Develop select NGN item type(s) using a case scenario.​

Practical Application Strategies for Artificial Intelligence in Nursing Education​
