EDITORIAL: THE IMPERATIVE OF CIVILITY IN UNCERTAIN TIMES
In an editorial by Cynthia M. Clark, PHD, RN, ANEF, FAAN, the author describes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our health and well-being. With the closure of academic workplaces and collegiate environments, the stress of learning to use and teach remotely with unfamiliar technology, the inability to share in person with colleagues at professional gatherings, and other pandemic-associated issues, acts of incivility may seem inevitable.
But you can counter such negative impulses, Dr. Clark advises, by focusing on personal wellness activities, as one option. Another suggestion? Asking members of your academic community to recommit to collegiality and civility.
In her editorial in Nurse Educator (Vol. 45, No. 4, p. 173, July-August 2020), "The imperative of civility in uncertain times," Dr. Clark writes:
"Nurse leaders play a pivotal role in fostering civility by setting a compelling vision and a positive course for the future. Surviving and thriving in any crisis begins with a vision for what is possible."
