Nurse.com recently interviewed ATI Nursing Education Specialist Robin Hertel, MSN, EdS, RN, CMSRN, for an article, “Careers for Med-Surg Nurses Stretch Beyond Hospital Walls.” Robin, who is also the president-elect for the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, described how being a med-surg nurse provides experience that can be parlayed into numerous other areas of medicine and healthcare. She encouraged med-surg nurses to continue their educations, whether they pursue higher degrees or certification in their work area.

“Not all work necessarily keeps you at the bedside,” the article quotes Robin, “but with every opportunity you take, as far as increasing your education, it’s going to open so many doors.”
