Dr. Kelly Simmons is an Education Consultant with ATI Nursing Education and adjunct faculty at Rocky Mountain University. She has held previous positions as a Chief Academic Officer, Dean, Associate Dean, Director, and faculty member. Dr. Simmons has been an RN for 30 years with specialty areas in critical care nursing and post-anesthesia care recovery. She has 15 years of experience in nursing education, having taught at the ADN, BSN, RN-BSN, MSN, and doctoral levels. She has developed curricula for BSN, MSN, and DNP programs along with other healthcare specialties. She has been involved in numerous accreditation visits, and the preparations for those visits, and has been an active participant in program assessment and evaluation activities.

Dr. Simmons created numerous online courses according to best practices in online course development. She is an advocate for the utilization of active learning strategies and has been a part of the shift to active learning in nursing education through publications and presentations at conferences and meetings.

Dr. Simmons’ primary interests in nursing education include curriculum development, best practices for active learning to promote clinical judgment, program evaluation, program assessment, and accreditation. Dr. Simmons is a Certified Nurse Educator. She earned her DNP degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, her MSN degree from Northern Kentucky University, and her BSN degree from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Simmons is a graduate of Leadership Northern Kentucky, a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and the Chair of the Rosedale Green Board of Directors, Covington, KY.
