Description & Objectives:
This session was recorded live at the 2018 ATI National Nurse Educator Summit in Salt Lake City, UT. This session is presented by Kelley Connor PhD, RN, CHSE. 1 CNE will be provided upon completion. Attendees must submit a completed evaluation of the educational activity to receive their CNE certificate. The purpose of this presentation is to describe a practical approach to using technology to engage students and to support low-dose, high-frequency learning (or microlearning environments). In this session, free technology applications will be discussed along with strategies for implementation. NearPod and Kahoot are examples of tools that can be used to create engaging classroom activities such as quizzes, polls, free-writing, drawing activities, or games. Remind and TweetDeck can keep students learning outside of the classroom by providing a platform for instructors to schedule periodic micro-content to students through posts, pictures, or videos.
Objective:
- Explain the rationale for low-dose, high-frequency learning in healthcare.
- Describe how NearPod®, Kahoot®, Remind®, and TweetDeck®can be used to engage students.
- Summarize how to use technology to support low-dose, high-frequency learning.
