Ensuring a strong academic foundation... right from the start

What do you really know about your students’ abilities before they begin taking nursing courses? How often have you asked yourself what you would have done differently had you known a bit more about their learning styles, academic preparedness, and critical-thinking abilities?

ATI understands these needs. To meet them, we offer you a series of assessments and learning tools that provide valuable information early in the nursing program, long before a correctable weakness can derail a student’s progress in the nursing curriculum. Armed with vital information from this solid triad of assessments, you will be prepared to help your students stay on track throughout the entire nursing program:

Pre-Admission Assessments

  • Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®). The TEAS® assesses the academic preparedness of entry-level nursing students in Reading, Math, Science, and English and Language Usage. A TEAS® Study Manual and an online practice assessment are also available for the students to use for preparation and review.

  • Self-Assessment Inventory. This test yields descriptive data that identify your students’ learning styles, critical-thinking skills, professional characteristics, work values, and more – all on a five-point Likert scale.

  • Critical Thinking Entrance/Exit Assessment. This examination gives you one opportunity to identify your students’ levels of critical thinking. Given at the beginning and end of the nursing program, it can help you document critical-thinking skills as a measurable outcome for accreditation.

Additional Resource

  • The Quest for Academic Success introduces your students to key concepts in the critical-thinking process. Its study-habits inventory gives students an honest look at how they study, along with strategies for improvement.
